support for Android devices such as smartphones, Sony SRS, Samsung Galaxy S9, HTC 10, Google Pixel 2, Galaxy S10, Nexus 6, LG V20, LG K55.
What we don’t like
The amp has a built-in SRS button that isn’t as good as the one on the SRS-enabled SRS-enabled Headphones. In our tests the button was difficult to hear over the loud-speakers-only sound of the amp. Still, it does the job and works on most popular Android devices. The amp has a volume control, but no volume wheel.
We appreciate the USB-C port. It’s not an ordinary USB-C port, but rather a USB-A port that also supports USB 2.0. The USB-C port supports USB 2.0 data transfer rates, up to 480 Mbps. That’s a lot of transfer bandwidth and more than many other portable USB-C ports on the market.
The amp also supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 standard, which is faster than most other standard charging methods. The amp supports Quick Charge 3.0 charging, but it doesn’t do as good as standard Quick Charge 3.0 charging. The power output is rated at 1775 watts and it does not offer a fast-charging mode.
The competition
Pioneer H4PE is a compact portable headphone amp with a headphone jack, but it’s not the best option for most people. It’s just a great option if you’re looking for a portable headphone amp, but the H4PE’s price is also higher than other portable headphone amps.
The Audio Technica AT2020 is slightly better than the H4PE at playing low-end audio. It also comes with a headphone adapter, but the AT2020’s cable is thinner and shorter than the H4PE’s.
The Sony DAB-1000BT is an amp with a headphone jack, but it’s not as good as the AT2020.
The Pioneer TSXB701 is a good portable headphone amp. It comes with a headphone adapter, but the cable is longer than the H4PE’s and thicker than the AT2020.
We tested the Sony TSXB701 and found it to be the best portable headphone amp we’ve used, but the AT2020 is better overall.
What to look forward to
We plan to test the Sony MDRZX770K, which is a newer version of the AT2020 and comes with a headphone adapter. The AT2070K has a different dual-driver design and it has a removable cable. We’re not holding that against it, but the MDRZX770K definitely has better sound than the AT2020.
The Audio Technica AT2020 is the best portable headphone amp we’ve tested on Amazon. It has a headphone jack and comes with a USB-C cable and a USB-C cable with a USB-C to USB-C connector. The dual-driver design means the AT2020 can’t play high frequencies as well as other portable headphone amps, but that’s why we’re recommending the AT2020 over the AT2020.
